Amy Jeninga, President of the CCMA, shares, “We are thrilled to welcome these inspiring and dynamic women to our Board of Directors. Their passion and expertise will undoubtedly be a driving force as we work together to achieve our collective goal of elevating the Canadian country music landscape, both at home and on a global stage. With their addition to this dedicated group of industry veterans, we can to continue to build a strong, vibrant community within our industry and among our members; forging connections, fostering growth, and celebrating the genre a whole.”

Re-elected for a second term for the 2023-2024 CCMA Board of Directors is:

Carmen Choney
With over 25 years of industry experience, Carmen Choney has worn many hats across her illustrious career, including tour, stage, and artist management. As a seasoned events professional, Choney has left her mark on some of North America’s most significant events, including the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver for NBC, and over a span of more than 15 years, she has played a vital role in managing performances at major festivals such as the Big Valley Jamboree and Country Thunder.

Choney’s extensive knowledge, unwavering work ethic, and expansive network have been instrumental in elevating the MDM Recordings brand. Her commitment extends beyond the business side of the music world — Choney lives and breathes country music. In her current roles, she co-manages Jess Moskaluke and serves as the tour manager for the Hunter Brothers. Her unique perspective and meticulous attention to detail place a strong emphasis on the well-being of her clients, making her an invaluable asset to the industry.

New elected to the 2023-2024 CCMA Board of Directors are:

Lindsay Hyslop
With over a decade of industry experience, Lindsay Hyslop has worked in label, management and publishing positions in Nashville and Toronto. Hyslop currently works with BMG / Broken Bow Music Group to promote their incredible roster of international superstars including Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll in Canada. She also held positions at RGK Entertainment and Universal Music Canada, managing marketing, brand partnerships and streaming for their rosters. Throughout her career, Hyslop has worked closely with top domestic and international country artists including Dean Brody, Gord Bamford, Madeline Merlo, Sam Hunt and many more. She has developed great relationships with industry partners, digital service providers and media outlets to secure prime featuring and hundreds of millions of streams for her roster.

Morgan James
Morgan James (MJ) has worked in radio broadcasting for ten years, beginning her radio career in sales. James’s outgoing personality, however, led to a Morning Show position at a pop station in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Shortly after, James moved on to a locally operated and Indigenous-owned Hip Hop, R&B, and Soul station, where she continued to hone her skills as an on-air host. With a passion like no other, her knowledge of music eventually led to a Music Director position while also working in the production and promotions departments. After five years and a station rebrand, James continued as the Music Director and Host at NOW Country for the same organization. In the role, she ensured that the station offered a playlist like no other in Canada while focusing on up-and-coming and underrepresented artists and communities. James’s dedication to the Country format was recognized with a second-ballot CCMA Country Personality of the Year nomination in 2022. A year later, she was offered a position with Pure Country Radio in London, Ontario, where she continues demonstrating her enthusiasm and knowledge of Country music as the genre continues to evolve in Canada. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The CCMA To Induct Brian Edwards And Jason McCoy Into The Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame

THE CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION® TO INDUCT BRIAN EDWARDS AND JASON MCCOY INTO THE CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME®

EDWARDS AND MCCOY TO BE HONOURED IN SPECIAL INDUCTION CEREMONY, TAKING PLACE DURING COUNTRY MUSIC WEEK 2023, SEPTEMBER 14-16 IN HAMILTON, ON

Toronto, ON (July 18, 2023) — Today the Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) is thrilled to announce Brian Edwards (Stan Klees Builder) and Jason McCoy (Artist) as the 2023 Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame® inductees. Both Edwards and McCoy will be honoured and celebrated in an exclusive induction ceremony during 2023 Country Music Week, taking place in Hamilton, ON, September 14–16.

“It’s truly a privilege to be able to celebrate the incredible achievements and careers of those in the Canadian Country music community, and the addition of Brian and Jason to the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame is no exception,” says Amy Jeninga, CCMA President. “The opportunity to highlight their accomplishments during this year’s Country Music Week celebrations is sure to be a special and memorable moment, and one that I’m very much looking forward to.”

With a career spanning over 40 years, Brian Edwards started his journey in the music industry in his teens when he became, at that time, the youngest talent agent in North America to be licensed by the Federation of Musicians Union. Together his father Rae, a local square dance caller, and “Sunshine” Sean Eyre, a country music DJ in Peterborough, taught Edwards the ins and outs of the industry, and he started his company, former CCMA Booking Agency of the Year  Rockland Entertainment Inc., just after high school. Edwards has gone on to represent some of the most notable names in Canadian Country Music, including an over 25 year relationship with Stompin’ Tom Connors and over four decades with Tommy Hunter, plus Red Green, The Leahy Family, Rita MacNeil, Charley Pride and more. His lessons in the business continued under the mentorship of CCMA Hall of Fame inductees Ron Sparling and Paul Mascioli, and to date, Edwards has promoted over 5000 shows across Canada, the United States, and Australia. He continues to pay it forward by offering yearly scholarships at both Peterborough’s Kenner High School and the Wolfville Nova Scotia High School, in memory of Wilf Carter.

“I’m overjoyed and endlessly grateful for the opportunity to be inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame,” shares Edwards.  “The music business has been my life; I started in this industry before leaving high school and have been working in it ever since.  Being recognized amongst so many of the Legends of Canadian Country Music that I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the course of my career really brings it all home. Thank you CCMA, this means the world to me.”

A 25 year veteran of the entertainment industry and two time CCMA Male Vocalist of the Year, Jason McCoy grew up in the small town of Minesing Ontario, admiring the well-rounded artistry of classic entertainers Roger Miller, Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell. At the age of 19 McCoy set out to follow his own path to stardom, racking up multiple CCMA and CMA awards along with a Canadian Gold-certified album and CMA Global Artist Award (Nashville CMA). As creator and front man of the best-selling band in Canadian Country Music history, The Road Hammers, he took on the Country Rock genre and guided the band to unprecedented success throughout Canada and the United States, earning a Canadian Platinum-certified album, three CCMA Group of the Year award (2 years consecutively), and a JUNO Award. McCoy transferred his engaging stage presence into numerous hosting opportunities, from stepping in front of the camera as host of Smashtown (CMT Canada/USA), CMT’s Pet Heroes (2010/2011), and Jason McCoy Eats America to his work with CMT on two hit seasons of The Road Hammers television series. In addition to a full touring schedule, McCoy is an award-winning morning host with Pure Country 106 in Orillia, ON, and host of the Nationally Syndicated weekly show Nothin’ But The 90’s.  Continuing to write and record music, McCoy prizes the time he spends with his wife and two children at their home farm, just two miles from the small town of Minesing where it all began.

“I’ve always been proud to be part of the Canadian country music community,” says McCoy. “It means a lot to me to be able to receive this amazing recognition from my peers and the music industry who have always been so supportive of my creative endeavours. I’m truly humbled by this honour.”

The CCMA has been honouring Canadian Artists and Builders who have made long-term contributions to the growth and development of Canadian country music since 1984. Inductees into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame (Hall of Fame) are selected annually by their Canadian peers in the industry. The Hall of Fame is managed by the CCMA Board of Directors’ appointed Hall of Fame Management Committee (Management Committee). The Stan Klees Builder Award, was established in recognition of RPM Magazine co-founder, Mr. Stan Klees, and his pioneering efforts in creating the CCMA Awards Program.

2023 Gary Slaight Music Humanitarian Award Recipient – DEAN BRODY

DEAN BRODY TO BE HONOURED WITH CCMA AWARD OF ACHIEVEMENT AS THE 2023 RECIPIENT OF THE GARY SLAIGHT MUSIC HUMANITARIAN AWARD

Brody Will Be Celebrated For The Remarkable Achievements Of The Dean Brody Foundation During Country Music Week 2023, September 14-16 In Hamilton, ON

TORONTO, ON (June 22, 2023) – The Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) Board of Directors and the CCMA are proud to announce Dean Brody as the 2023 recipient of the Gary Slaight Music Humanitarian Award, honouring the multiple CCMA Award winner for his remarkable achievements across numerous initiatives through The Dean Brody Foundation. Awarded annually, the Gary Slaight Music Humanitarian Award recognizes an individual(s) and/or event(s) that have made an outstanding contribution of time and energy in the support of humanitarian causes through country music.

The Dean Brody Foundation was started after a life-changing trip, in hopes of giving a voice to the voiceless. I am incredibly honoured to be receiving this year’s Gary Slaight Music Humanitarian Award to be able to further shine a spotlight on the causes that I hold deeply to my heart and have supported through this foundation,” says Brody. “Stepping into partnership with IJM a few years ago has allowed us to increase our reach and impact and it has been inspiring to see how much more we’ve been able to accomplish together. On behalf of every single exploited child we’ve been able to help, I want to thank both the CCMA and the Slaight family for this honour.

I am very impressed with the work and contributions Dean Brody has personally made to making the lives of so many people here in Canada and Internationally better and safer,” shares Gary Slaight President and CEO of The Slaight Family Foundation. “The Slaight Family Foundation starting with my father Allan, has always believed that giving back to those in need is the most important commodity we can provide as human beings and we champion Dean’s endeavour in doing the same. Dean’s achievements are certainly deserving of this Humanitarian Award, and I congratulate him on this recognition.”

Founded in 2011, The Dean Brody Foundation began as a way for Brody to support the rescue and prevention of young girls being exploited and trafficked around the world. Initially focused on Brazil, he quietly committed himself to the cause after travelling and seeing the crisis first hand. Since the foundation’s inception, Brody has personally and privately donated over $500,000 to the organization, and has made over a dozen self-funded trips to Brazil to work alongside Meninadança and their “Pink Houses” initiative, providing safe homes for at-risk girls along Brazil’s “exploitation highway”, the BR-116.

In 2021, Brody expanded the foundation’s mission in partnership with the global organization International Justice Mission (IJM), supporting their efforts to combat the online exploitation of children (OSEC) in the Philippines and prevent harm before it happens. In his quiet and humble manner, Dean has also supported countless grassroots charities across Canada in addition to higher profile events including his 2022 partnership with the National Hockey League Players Association® (NHLPA®), donating $60,000 to the local minor hockey community in his hometown of Cranbrook, B.C. to ensure children of families facing financial barriers could access the sport.

The extraordinary impact of The Dean Brody Foundation in communities across the world is awe-inspiring, and we are so pleased to be able to shine a spotlight on Dean and celebrate his selfless mission,” shares Amy Jeninga, President. CCMA. “Dean’s willingness to step-up and use his platform for change, along with his commitment to causes both global and right in his own backyard, are a testament to his character, and the CCMA is thrilled to highlight the work he continues to do.”

The CCMA Award of Achievement is named in recognition of generous donations made by the Slaight Music Foundation. The 2023 Slaight Music Humanitarian Award will be presented to Dean Brody during a private industry event as part of Country Music Week 2023, taking place September 14-16 in Hamilton, ON.
