Alberta Talent Celebrated on CCMA Awards Show Stage
(Edmonton, AB) June 21, 2010 – The Canadian Country Music Association has announced that three of our nation’s top male performers will be on stage this fall celebrating the best of country music during the CCMA Awards Show. Not only are these three award-winning, chart-topping singers and songwriters, but they also happen to call Alberta home.
On September 12, the crowd at the CCMA Awards show will go wild as Paul Brandt, Gord Bamford and Corb Lund each take their places and perform on the stage at Rexall Place in Edmonton.
Paul Brandt
Calgary’s Paul Brandt began his career in 1996 with the release of his first album, Calm Before The Storm. 14 years and eight albums later, his momentum continues to gather steam, setting this multi-platinum selling artist apart as the most-awarded male Canadian Country Artist in history. Paul has toured North America and Europe, and his music and involvement with international aid organizations World Vision and Samaritan's Purse and support of the military have taken him to Ethiopia, Malawi, Uganda, Chile, Belize, South Korea, Cambodia, Egypt and Bosnia. Never content to rest on past accomplishments, the artist is currently recording new material for an upcoming project, scheduled for release in 2011.
Gord Bamford
Born in Australia, Gord Bamford has called Lacombe, Alberta home, since the age of five. An award-winning songwriter, his third album, Honkytonks and Heartaches was released in 2007 and included Gord’s first top ten single on the Canadian Country Singles chart, “Blame it on that Red Dress”. This album solidified his position on the Canadian Country charts and earned him a 2008 Juno nomination for Country Recording of the Year. He also earned the 2008 CCMA Award for Top New Male Talent and Record Producer of the Year (with Byron Hill). Honkytonks and Heartaches was also recently named ‘Album of the Decade’ by Country Music News. In April, 2010, Gord released his latest album, “Day Job.”
Corb Lund
Hailing from Taber, Alberta, Lund has been named Roots Artist of the Year by the CCMA for the last six years running. He collected the Roots and Traditional Album of the Year trophy for his album Hair In My Eyes Like A Highland Steer at the 2006 JUNO Awards and took home a CCMA Album of the Year award for the set as well. His ambitious 2007 song cycle Horse Soldier, Horse Soldier! was nominated for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize. His latest album, Losin’ Lately Gambler was produced by noted Nashville drummer and vocalist Harry Stinson (of Marty Stuart’s Fabulous Superlatives). Recently signed to an international deal, this is Lund’s first album released by his new LA-based record label New West Records.
The 2010 CCMA Awards show takes place on Sunday, September 12 at Rexall Place at 5 PM MST and will be broadcast nationally on CBC and CMT. Tickets are $35, $70 and $95 and are available at all Ticketmaster locations or online at ticketmaster.ca.
