CCMA AWARDS NOMINEES & HOST ANNOUNCED

(Toronto, ON) July 29, 2009 – The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) announced today the nominees and host for the 2009 CCMA Awards at a media conference held in Toronto, ON.

 

Now in his third decade as a professional performer, Jason Priestley is one of the most versatile talents in the entertainment business, both in front of and behind the camera.  Priestley has spent much of the last year in the director's chair working on many episodes of the hit ABC family show The Secret Life of the American Teenager and most recently a new on-line series for the CW called The Lake. In September he makes a triumphant return to the screen in his native Vancouver as he plays host to the 2009 CCMA Awards on September 13.

 

Canada’s most popular country Scotsman, Johnny Reid leads the nominations with a total of six, including Single of the Year, Album of the Year for Dance With Me, Songwriter of the Year, CMT Video of the Year for “A Woman Like You”, Male Artist of the Year and the CCMA Fans’ Choice Award.  Reid is scheduled to perform at the CCMA Awards.

 

Seasoned country performer George Canyon who along with his previously announced Fans’ Choice nomination, is also nominated in the Single of the Year, Album of the Year, CMT Video of the year and Male Artist of the year categories for a total of five major CCMA Awards nominations.

 

Also with five nominations is songwriter turned recording artist, Victoria Banks whose debut album, When You Can Fly earned her nominations for not only Album of the Year but also Single of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Female Artist of the year and the Rising Star Award.

 

Other Final Ballot heavy hitters include the 2008 Top New Male Talent of the Year, Gord Bamford who scored four nominations and newcomer Dean Brody who including a nomination for Rising Star also had nominations for Single of the Year, CMT Video of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.
