On the Horizon...
High Valley
There are two types of storytellers: those who tell the truth, and those who reinvent it. Of course, it’s always best to be honest, but even the most candid of narrators can win over an audience with a few embellishments; that, in a nutshell, is songwriting. Hailing from rural Alberta, High Valley has won over more than an audience, and their numerous accomplishments attest to their impressive songwriting credentials. Although High Valley cites Jerry Salley as a major influence, they may soon find themselves among his ranks.
But there is certainly more to good songwriting than telling a story through symbolism, imagery and ornamentation. Just one spin of High Valley’s newest album reveals lyrics infused with the wisdom gained only by facing everyday challenges. High Valley has indeed overcome many of those in their career, “It’s all about finding that perfect balance, you have to be unique but at the same time, have mainstream appeal; the right mix of commercial and artistic elements makes it easier for listeners to appreciate your music and at the same time, identify with it.”
Identifying with music is one thing that has always come naturally to these rural revelers, who wrote their new album over a six month period, during which, they were pitched by other writers and collaborated with Paul Brandt. Growing up on a strict diet of family and faith has clearly helped shape the attitudes of these three talented guys, whose artistic integrity and ethical insight emanate from every inspiring song.
Inspiration is never in short supply where High Valley is present and they draw on different aspects of their life for encouragement. “We gather inspiration from simply living life. As long as you immerse yourself in culture and soak in everything that is going on around you, you’ll never run out of inspiring encounters.” The members of High Valley are no strangers to faith and also look to the Bible for motivation.
With very little standing in their way, High Valley is a triple threat - three talented artists combining their talent for songwriting, singing and performing. But this band has more to offer than their great music. High Valley is a testament to the benefits of hard work, dedication and faith: “We’re always aiming to work harder and strive for our absolute best. A strong desire to connect with our fans and a genuine love of what we do has contributed to our success.” There is something to be learned from a truth that needs no exaggeration.
Artist Biography
Music and family have always been at the core of the Rempel brothers' lives. The Canadian trio has opened shows for Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes and Reba McEntire, earning a solid reputation as a must-see live act. High Valley's last album, "Broken Borders," was named Album of the Year at the 2007 GMA Canada Covenant Awards in the country category while their hit "Back to You" was honored as Country Song of the Year.
The Canadian-born siblings grew up in Alberta on a farm in the rural community of La Crete; life on their farm was dominated by faith, family, hard work and lots of country music. It didn't take long for the brothers' own musical aspirations to develop and they knew very early on what they wanted to name the band. The brothers performed at church camps then graduated to opening dates for major country acts.
With their new album being released on September 14 and the support of their label, Open Road, High Valley is starting to generate buzz on both sides of the border; the brothers are looking forward to expanding their audience.
